Doom 2016—the original Doom, released in 1993—is an undeniable and significant landmark in video game history. The new Doom actually departs from many of the stylistic hallmarks of current first-person shooters, both in small details and in its overall design. The most striking example of these "small" details is the lack of a reload button.
Tribute
Another thing that works beautifully in Doom is how it pays homage to the original 1993 game. It does this by bringing back a ton of features from that absolute masterpiece, starting with enemies that are virtually identical, and it can't help but evoke a positive nostalgia in the hearts of long-time players.
