Dead Format is an atmospheric survival horror game styled after the VHS era. The player must find their brother, who has disappeared into a film nightmare. In a world where the sound hisses and the image flickers, you must navigate through horror film genres to restore reality and avoid losing your sanity along with the recording.
The sound of old tape
Each discovered tape transports the hero to a new nightmare—from black-and-white films to decaying amateur recordings. The apartment becomes a safe haven where they can catch their breath, examine the evidence, and prepare for the next viewing. The television is a gateway, and the screen a mirror of fear.
Exploration, collecting objects, and limited resources make the journey tense. The camera acts as a conduit between worlds, and preservation is only possible outside the nightmare. The horror lingers: the film crackles, the image distorts, and something lurks behind the noise of the signal that shouldn't exist.
