Grim Dawn is an RPG, adventure, and action game that immerses you in a fantasy world of the apocalypse, where humanity is on the brink of extinction, trust is hard to come by, and simple iron is revered more than gold.
The main plot line
The story unfolds in the mysterious world of Cairn after the Grim Dawn, where people struggle to survive among the Chthonians and Ethereals, confronting bandits and various beasts. Humanity reunited with otherworldly beings and opened a portal that allowed the aliens into their world, where they created special prisons. After experiments on the aliens, it was discovered that they were composed of ether, allowing them to control human minds, suppressing their willpower. Humans implanted with ether gain the ability to acquire powerful powers. The research had catastrophic consequences, leading the Ethereals to open portals to their world, bringing incredible numbers of these creatures into ours.
Adapting to a terrible reality
Enclaves of survivors scattered across the world are forced to hide in various shelters. After a reality distortion, they developed strange new abilities that some found distasteful, while others saw them as a promise of a brighter future. Most of the details of the events can be read from fragments of settlers' diaries. Players will face difficult decisions that will inevitably impact the entire world. The lives of people who could die depend on your actions. To unlock additional quests, vendor discounts, unique items, and upgrades, you will need to earn the faction's trust. Enemy factions are able to remember all your actions and will send huge packs and select characters to track you down.
